97 Chapter 96: Stepping into the battlefield

Upon hearing Damon’s words the son of heaven frowned but said nothing. It seemed like he had been waiting for a thousand years for someone to ask this question and when the question finally came, he suddenly didn’t know the answer to it anymore. Damon gazed at the tongue-tied son of heaven and sighed. If only he could assure his safety at the hands of this man, he would have been willing to dedicate his life to these people.

‘I guess my greatest hope now is the blood clan’ Damon said in his mind as he leaned back and pondered gravely.

While he can always consider the option of the United forces winning, he was also putting into account the possibility of their defeat. If this should happen, then his greatest chance at breaking free from this kingdom would come!

Damon sighed and left the room disappointed. It seemed like he had instinctively expected more from the peak expert of this world yet, the man was as shallow as the stream. Maybe his view of life is broader simply because he has seen the lives of numerous people, things of the present meant almost nothing to him now.

As soon as Damon returned to his room, he began studying for the war. While he can boldly say he doesn’t like the kingdom or the son of heaven, the best he can do is benefit from this campaign and get stronger. As long as he can reach the spirit realm, he shouldn’t have anything else to worry about. With that level of strength, he can force his way out of the empire and live in seclusion.

These kinds of thoughts were the ones responsible for keeping Damon active. It made him look forward to the war since it also meant he would have the chance to grow. By the time the third week was over, Damon had mastered the war halos given to him to learn but he was yet to form his own personal war halo. Since he read books concerning strategy in warfare, Damon believed he was more than ready to lead an army and since he would only serve as a temporary brigadier general, he was not even the highest in terms of ranking! He would still be forced to follow orders from Duke Hail.

An unknown amount of time passed and Lucy was yet to be allowed to visit him. Not just anyone can be allowed into the palace regardless of a person’s status. Lucy was not worthy to step into the royal palace so the Son of heaven wouldn’t let it happen. Instinctively, he was protecting the girl from Damon which made Damon confirm all he needed to know. Even luck wasn’t on his side when this was involved. Just watching the world indirectly protect her from him was enough evidence to prove what Sol was trying to say.

Supernatural interference can be frustrating!

For the last week, nothing special happened while Damon completely focused on learning everything he could from the manuals. When he was done, he simply focused on feeding and regaining the strength lost to the drugs added to his meals earlier.

.....

............

Following a cool breeze, a figure emerged from the royal palace and walked out to meet a figure standing in front. Duke Hail was dressed in red and golden armor, carrying the symbol of the great Gyro Kingdom on it like an immortal Phoenix! His stern gaze was pinned on the youth in black and purple armor.

Since the training consumed an entire month, he didn’t see Damon for a while. The current Damon now had grown slightly taller and looked even manlier. His eyes were like two bright lights in the plain darkness, lightning up the way.

Around his waist were two black daggers and a Grimoire. He had come completely prepared for battle!

“Did you bring some potions with you?” Duke Hail asked as he gazed at Damon in the face and nodded in approval.

The change in his aura was visible. After learning the war halos and probably mastering his own personal war halo, he had a more tamed aura than before.

“Do werewolves need potions?” Damon asked with a dull look on his face.

“Everything will eventually need a potion, if its regenerative qualities are pushed to the limit and beyond, that will save your life!” Duke Hail said calmly and Damon nodded in understanding.

Without hesitation, Duke Hail pulled out another manual and passed it over to Damon while wearing a sad smile on his face.

“I know you must be feeling frustrated, after having to study for an entire month straight without rest, but it’s not yet over. There are lots of things you must learn on the way to the battlefield” Duke Hail said and Damon frowned.

“What I find annoying is not that I had to study the entire month. What I find more infuriating is that I finally find a way to gain more strength and the werewolf’s secret techniques I couldn’t learn in the past weren’t given to me immediately.... That could have saved me a lot of trouble, especially when it could have made life in the palace a lot easier for me” Damon complained but he didn’t reject the manual.

Werewolf techniques didn’t require effort to be learned like the normal human techniques. The moment he grabbed the book, his eyes turned white as countless images flooded his mind. All the contents of the mighty book below were poured out into his mind in just a second, allowing him to relieve this part of the former lone wolf’s life.

“I can never get used to this!” Damon said with a frown.

No matter who brings the vision to him, once it’s over, Damon always suffers from minor side effects like a headache and even nausea which made him restless for a short amount of time.

He completely despised this feeling.

“If you are done chit chatting then, I would suggest we start moving. It’s time for us to start moving if we plan to make it to the battlefield on time” Dennis Hail rode up to the duo and said. He wore a bright blue armor with the same golden Phoenix symbol on his chest, representing the Gyro Kingdom.

Seeing this, Damon couldn’t help but remember the old stories surrounding the royal palace. It is said that for generations the royal family has always mastered a single technique, allowing them to remain the peak existence on the continent for a long while.

It was tied to their affinity to the fire element!

It had something to do with the undying power of a Phoenix which remained unmatched until the arrival of the guardian spirit hosts. People believed that the old gods revealed a portion of the hidden techniques of the world to the four leading figures of the continent, just to make sure they have enough power to deal with the hosts personally it the time should arrive. It is said that the current son of heaven surpassed his predecessors and mastered an even more powerful pathway that has never been mastered by anyone in the past.

The word pathway!

The ability to speak and make things happen! Far different and more effective than the Sacrificial spell which Damon was planning to use on the vampire, Kyle.

Thinking of this, Damon wondered what the Phoneix undying pathway and the word pathway would look like. He silently longed to see the son of heaven step onto the battlefield and dominate the entire continent once again as he did in the past.

‘But that remains impossible... The truth remains that the human emperor is the strongest existence on the continent but his actions are influenced by powers he cannot resist. He has been made docile, preventing him from obliterating the other races in the world. Until the old gods see no need for these people, they will forever maintain the balance that will let them cultivate peacefully... this is where you come in. The blood clan broke the balance and the old gods have gathered the forces of the continent to wipe them out. When you finally reveal yourself and shatter the balance, I can assure you of one thing. The world will shatter the balance and join hands to annihilate you. That is why the guardian spirit hosts must work together to resist the world long enough until they gain they become true gods and gain the strength necessary to battle the old gods and cosmic spirits again!’ Death said in Damon’s mind, making him frown.

The more he got to find out about this world, the more he hated it. Considering the kind of information he just received he already deduced that the presence of all six members of the guardian spirit hosts will not be enough to survive. They need an army of their own if they plan to resist the entire world. To deal with this, their only option now is to save the forces capable of destroying the entire world!

The blood clan!

“Life keeps getting more and more complicated!” Damon sighed at his crazed thoughts.
