Chapter 162

"Kolten," Liam said, his tone composed and detached, barely acknowledging the receptionist. His request seemed to take her aback, but she quickly regained her professional poise. "I apologize, do you have an appointment?"

Liam shook his head.

The receptionist mentally lumped him with the dreamers from small-tcompanies who sought an audience with Kolten, hoping for a partnership. She could not help but feel a touch of scorn, though her smile remained impeccable. "I'm sorry, sir! Mr. Reath is currently in a meeting. Without an appointment, I'm afraid he's unavailable to meet guests."

Liam's displeasure was evident as he frowned. Unfazed, he said, "If he's in a meeting, then please call him. Tell him Liam is here to see him."

The receptionist, usually the epitof patience, was at her wit's end with the man before her. Anyone else might have snapped, calling security to escort the nuisance out. However, her training with Jerden Group kicked in, and she managed to stay composed, offering a strained smile. "Please, sir, have a seat and wait just a moment."

Liam stood tall and resolute, a picture of dignity, with Calum right behind him, equally imposing. The two of them had an air about them that even the worldly receptionist could ignore, leaving her no choice but to ask them to sit.

After his request, she reached for the phone and dialed with a gentle touch. She spoke softly, "Hello, could you connectto the chairman's office? There's Liam here to see him."

However, before she could even put the phone down, a burly man in a suit barged in, his face set in a stern frown. He fixed the receptionist with a harsh stare. "What's the problem here?"

"Mr. Yale Wabsor, this gentleman is here to see Mr. Reath," she stammered, visibly shrinking back in fear.

Yale's frown deepened as he took in Liam with a critical eye. He seemed to make up his mind about him quickly, then turned back to the receptionist with clear annoyance. "What happened to the rules? Did all your training fly out the window? You're escalating things without an appointment? Do you think you should report every Tom, Dick, and Harry who demands to see Mr. Reath? Is Mr. Reath so free that he can meet with just anyone? If you're not up for the job, maybe you should just pack up and leave now!"

The receptionist scrambled to apologize, her voice trembling and eyes welling up with tears. "Mr. Yale Wabsor, I'm so sorry! It won't happen again, I swear! I'm begging you, please! I can't lose this job!"

She could not have foreseen that such a trivial mistake would spiral into a nightmare, threatening her livelihood. Her resentment towards Liam simmered. He was the catalyst for that mess. With her job on the line, panic set in. Images of her mother, ailing in the hospital, and her brother, whose tuition hung in the balance, flashed before her, and she could not hold back the tears.

Yale dismissed her pleas with a dismissive snort, turned away, and fixed Liam with a look of disdain. "I've had it with you small-toperators, always clawing at the doors of Jerden Group, thinking you're in our league. As if we'd ever let the likes of you meet our chairman. You're living in a fantasy. I'm telling you now, Jerden Group doesn't do business with minnows. Beat it, or I'll have security throw you out!"
